An ICO file is useful for an application icon or favicon. Begin with a square PNG that is still readable at small sizes. This example uses a 256 × 256 source and keeps its transparent background.
Example input
icon.png · 256 × 256 pxExpected result
icon.ico · 256 × 256 pxTry it step by step
- Choose a PNG icon. Check that important details are clear when the image is small.
- Select ICO as the output. The converter fits the image while preserving its proportions.
- Process the image and download ICO. Test the downloaded icon in the application or website that will use it.
How to read the result
A square 256 × 256 source fits a 256 × 256 icon. A rectangular source keeps its proportions and is fitted within 256 × 256 pixels. Converting to ICO does not create a complete set of hand-tuned icon sizes or automatically install a favicon on your website.
Limits and important details
This tool creates one static icon image. The target application may have additional size or format requirements. Keep an editable source for changes to the artwork.
